Spring, Summer Events Raise Thousands for Building of Crofton Regional Community Center

Several spring and summer events have helped raise thousands of dollars for the construction of a Crofton Regional Community Center and skate park.
 
Among the fund-raising events that occurred in June and July 2010 were
  • Exhibitions at the Bowie Skate Park
  • A Bowie Baysox game
  • A "Cut-a-Thon" at the Hair Experience salon
  • A guest bartender night at Krazy Otto's Saloon
  • A dinner at Italian Market
The dinner followed a memorial event in honor of Christopher Jones, the Crofton teenager who was killed in May 2009. At the event, his parents donated $7,000--the largest single sum yet--to CRCC.
 
Jennifer Adkins, Christopher's mother, also threw the first pitch at the Baysox game, which raised hundreds of dollars from ticket sales proceeds. And she raised more than $900 for CRCC as a guest bartender. 
 
Upcoming fund-raisers include
  • a bull roast at the Elks club on July 31
  • a fund-raiser at Rita's on July 28

CRCC is a 501(c)3 organization (donations are tax exempt) committed to constructing a community center to serve the needs of the greater Crofton area by 2015.

Volunteers Needed!

On Nov. 2, 2009, the Anne Arundel County Council approved the lease of a four-acre parcel to CRCC to execute the center's business plan for a regional community center and skatepark. The lease calls for CRCC to raise $2.5 million toward the center's construction and operation in 2010 and additional amounts through 2013.
