What is the Crofton Regional Community Center, Inc. (CRCC)?

The Crofton Regional Community Center (CRCC) will be a multipurpose facility designed to meet the diverse needs of community residents of all ages—from children to the elderly. It will be strategically located to offer easy and safe access for youths and includes an outdoor skatepark. CRCC is a unique venture in that will operate as a publicly accessible facility supported by private resources and managed by local citizens.

Where and when will the CRCC be built?

The CRCC will be built on land leased from Anne Arundel County. This property is located in Crofton on Reidel Road next to the Crofton Public Library. The CRCC Inc. signed a 20-year lease with County Executive John Leopold which wassubsequently approved by the Anne Arundel County Council.We anticipateconstruction will begin in 2013 with a grand opening planned for 2014. Your help will keep us on this timeline and help this community effort succeed.

What are the fundraising efforts?

Construction of the center will depend on the fund-raising activities of the CRCC Inc. We will be raising approximately $7 million for construction and $3 million for operations support. Support from community groups, including Kiwanis, Greater Crofton Council, Rotary, and the Greater Crofton Chamber of Commerce have helped this foundation get started. The CRCC Inc. will work with other organizations, local businesses, schools, and interested citizens to achieve our goal. In addition, we’ll be seeking federal, state, and county grants. If we don’t meet our fundraising and construction timelines, we’ll continue with our fundraising until our goals are met. Any interest earned onCRCC monies will be used for scholarship awards.

What programs will be offered?

The CRCC will offer an array of programs for all ages, including basketball, wrestling, martial arts, dance, music, and crafts. The CRCC Program Development Committee, chaired by Tim Johnson, is working on these and other sports, arts, and education programs. Collaborating with the Department of Aging, Y of Central Maryland, and other support program organizations, the CRCC will help to ensure a complete program schedule to maximize local citizen needs.
Who is involved in this effort?
Leadership of the CRCC includes private citizens of the greater Crofton area, community leaders, elected officials, and business leaders. CRCC members are helping tospread the word about the CRCC’s efforts. Numerous volunteers are working to support the CRCC’s goal of providing access to community activities to the youth and adults of the greater Crofton region.
How can I get involved?
We are always looking for people who are willing to help in our fundraising, community outreach, community center design, and program development committees. Designs for the skatepark are already underway by the CRCC Skatepark Development Committee chaired by Eric Tedrow.
